The Foucault Society was founded on June 1, 2004 in New York City to promote, study and apply the ideas and methodologies of Michel Foucault. The Society seeks to reach beyond academic philosophical circles to include other groups and individual, while at all times maintaining the integrity of the scholarship. The Society has grown very rapidly with gratifying domestic and international interest.

Foucault's ideas are used as frequently outside of academia as within and we are hoping to create forums that will increase communication among and within the incredibly diverse groups that use Foucault's ideas. These forums will include, though not be limited to: symposia, workshops, conferences, focus groups, textual interpretation workshops, exhibitions of art and performance, video, journal and book publications, and the various communication options our website will offer. In addition, the Society will be establishing resources for ongoing scholarship such as a resource center, a comprehensive international bibliography, and a scholarship fund to support post-doctoral studies and cultural initiatives.
