Upcoming Opportunities

Program Committee:  2009-10 academic year

Help us to plan and organize Foucault Society events and programs for the 2009-10 academic year.  Programs may include a new seminar
series, a colloquium series, research group,
panels at national academic conferences, and/or other programs that the committee suggests.  Committee members will decide on the topic
and format of programs, invite scholars to
present their research, write calls for papers and/or program descriptions for grant proposals, and work out logistics for events (including location and publicity).  Committee will meet monthly or as needed.  This is a great opportunity to think creatively about current Foucault research, to meet other people doing work in this field, and build up the "service" part of your c.v.

Grants Committee

Interested in learning about the grant application process for non-profits and academic organizations?  We expect to apply for another grant from the New York Council for the Humanities, who supported our 2008-09 seminar series with a mini-grant.  We'll be working on this over the summer, and welcome committee members who want to contribute.  This may be a fairly time-intensive volunteer commitment, but, again, it's good the for the c.v.   Previous grant-writing experience is welcome, but not necessary.

Immediate Opportunities

May 2009:

Roundtable Committee

We are currently seeking volunteers to assist with the organization of our May 20 roundtable on Foucault's The Birth of Biopolitics, especially with publicity and logistics.  If you are coming to the event and would like to help us set up or work at the registration table, or if you can volunteer to put up posters beforehand, we'd love to add you to our team.  As a committee member, you will also have the opportunity to contribute questions for the roundtable and communicate with invited faculty participants.  Committee members will be acknowledged on the roundtable program.

Web Committee

We have recently migrated the Foucault Society website to a new hosting service and we are currently updating the site.  If you have web design or web editing experience and you would like to contribute your skills and expertise, please let us know.   Familiarity with Microsoft Expressions, Dreamweaver, or FTP transfer protocol a plus.

Have other ideas?

Let us know what you'd like to do!  All energetic, enthusiastic, creative people are welcome.
